An introduction to skills

This will give you an overview of how to use the skills tab in the Employees module. Here, you can learn how to create or edit skills, how to use the tab, and how to add skills from learning. You can read more about how you, as a manager, can most effectively use the Skills functionality to maximize efficiency. For example, skills in Emply can be assigned to employees in order benchmark them against each other and to keep track of the skill development.

Creating skills

You can learn how to create skills that you can assign to the employees within the organization

  1. Go to Settings in the main menu

  2. Go to Templates

  3. In the tab Employees, go to Skills

  4. Create a + New skills area

  5. Enter a title for the area

    • The + option gives you the ability to create the skill area in different languages, if your environment supports multiple.

  6. Note

    You can edit the title of your skill by clicking Skill+Edit

  7. Remember to click Save

Add skills from learning

In this article, you can learn how skills can be added to employee profiles through the Learning module.

  1. From the main page, click on Learning from the menu.

  2. Click on + New course to create a new course

    This can be an online course, an onsite course, webinar, or learning path

  3. When creating the course, do not forget to fill in skills in the Gain skill field.

    • The skills that were created previously will be available in the drop down list.

    • Per selected skill, you can define what level can be reached for that skill upon completion of the course.

    • To learn how to create new skills go to the Create skills article

  4. When the course has been created, you will find info on the skills in the course overview

  5. Hover over the graph to see what percentage can be reached for a certain skill and what is the current percentage of that skill for the participants.

Add skills to an employee profile

The following will instruct you on how to add skills to an employee profile.

From the employee profile, you can also set benchmarks based on those skills.

Note

To be able to add or edit skills on an employee profile, you also need access to the full employee profile of that employee.

  1. Click on Employees from the main menu

  2. Select an employee profile and then click Skills in their profile

  3. Click on + New skill to add a new skill in the overview

  4. In the new window, select a new skill from the list presented and a number correlated to skill level.

  5. In the skills tab on the employee profile, you can now benchmark the employee against others based on the skills present. Choose which job profile or employee this specific profile will be compared with.

    Based on the skills selected, Emply will suggest a job profile who matches the employee's skill at the top of the page.

  6. The benchmark data can be shown as a line view, a spider graph, or bar graph by clicking on either of those three options.

    • The line view is show like this:

      The graph on the right side of the score, compares this employee's score with the set benchmark.

    • The spider view is shown like this:

      Hover over the graph to see which values are represented in that area. You can also see which color the employee is represented in.

    • The bar graph is shown like this:

      Hover over the graph to see the value for the skill, compared to the set benchmark above.

  7. Now the skill will be visible under the skills relevant area.

  8. Once you are done, remember to click Save
