Emply People Motivation is a tool that helps you understand what drives employee motivation. It is built around a motivation survey that explores four key drivers of motivation:
-
Purpose
-
Talents
-
Needs
-
Energy
Combined with individual motivation profiles and conversation guides, the tool gives managers and employees a shared language around motivation. This helps managers understand what motivates their employees, have better conversations and know what to do next.
Built on Motivation Factor’s methodology, developed since 2003, the tool combines neuroscience with established motivational theories and has been used by more than 35,000 individuals worldwide. Emply People Motivation helps strengthen performance, improve employee retention and support employee wellbeing.
Emply People Motivation is built around four interconnected levels of motivation. Each level represents a different aspect of what drives motivation – and together they create a complete picture of an employee’s motivation today.
-
Energy
The foundation of motivation. It reflects what gives employees energy in their work – and what drains it. Without sufficient energy, it’s difficult to stay motivated over time.
-
Needs
The individual conditions employees need to thrive. When core needs are met, motivation grows. When they aren’t, motivation can quickly decline.
-
Talents
The natural strengths employees enjoy using. Working from individual talents often creates energy, engagement, and a greater sense of achievement.
-
Purpose
The sense of contributing to something meaningful. Understanding how individual work contributes to a bigger picture is one of the strongest drivers of motivation.
Follow the journey from taking the survey to turning insights into meaningful conversations.

Before sending the survey, take some time to explain why you’re introducing Emply People Motivation and what employees can expect. A clear introduction builds trust, encourages honest responses, and creates a stronger foundation for the conversations that follow.
Although HR may have introduced the initiative across the organization, employees look to their manager to understand what it means for their team and why they’re being asked to participate.

How to use the suggested discussion points
Schedule dedicated time to meet with your employee in a quiet setting where you can review the Motivation Profile together. Use the profile and suggested discussion points as a guide, ask follow-up questions to better understand the employee’s perspective, and agree on any actions that can help support their motivation.
If the employee’s motivation is generally healthy, the conversation may simply confirm what’s working well. If motivation is lower, use the conversation to identify practical actions you can take together to better support the employee.
Remember to take notes during the conversation. Your notes can be used to follow up on agreed actions and support future motivation conversations and regular 1:1s.
Remember: There are no right or wrong results. Emply People Motivation is designed to help create the best possible conditions for high motivation – benefiting job satisfaction, well-being, and engagement alike.
